#6: Avoiding a Parking Ticket

#6 It makes my day when………..You avoid a parking ticket even though you know it has expired.
It has happened to all of us. Paying for parking is annoying, so you try to pay for as little as possible.
Fast-forward a few hours and you are having such a great time at your event, that even though you know you ticket is about to expire, you push your luck for an extra half hour.
Then it comes for the stressful walk back to your car, eagerly trying to see in the distance whether you can see a ticket on your windscreen. Closer, closer, closer – you still can’t see anything.
Then the relief is overwhelming when you stare intently at your windscreen to see that it is clear. WOHOO you have escaped and it makes feels like a winner, you have beaten the system. What a day!
Note: Your excitement level is directly related to the length of time you have overrun the ticket. People who have pushed the limit by over an hour have often been seen dancing on the roof of their cars. (As below)

#5: Fresh Food at the Buffet

#5 It makes my day when………..You wait in line at the buffet starving and ready to eat, wondering whether all the good food will be taken, when suddenly out of nowhere pops a serving angel with a new tray of the freshest, warmest meat/potato bake/fish/lasagne/pizza you have ever seen. Hello jackpot!
You can see the people in front of you who had just taken all the scraps off the previous tray look back in remorse for pushing in with their friends, as you now have prime pickings.
You walk back to your seat with your head a bit higher and quite the proud look on your face. Buffet meals never tasted so good.

#4: Realise you still have hours more sleep

#4 It makes my day when………..You wake up in the middle of the night and your very first thought is ‘Oh I’m so tired, I can’t possibly get up any time soon’. However you would prefer to have the bad news straight up, so you check your clock/phone for the time.
Then BOOM you are filled with excitement when you see that it is any time between 12am-4am and you still have hours left of sleep. Wicked!
The only possible downside to this excitement is that you get so pumped up by your good fortune that it makes it hard to get back to sleep.

#3: You score 2 items from the vending machine

#3 It makes my day when………..You score 2 items from the vending machine!
Trust me it happens and boy oh boy does it make your day.
It happened to me circa 2005 at the Perth Domestic Airport departures lounge (Virgin/SkyWest departures to be exact) as I was about to fly out to a mine site for a work trip. I was attempting to buy a Cherry Ripe to help improve my mood as I sulked as I was leaving a few weeks for work.
So it was to my extreme excitement that instead I got 2 Cherry Ripes and let out a little squeal and did I small (okay rather large) jump of joy.
However the positive experience changed my thoughts on flying for each work trip and each time I walked past that vending machine I smiled at myself at my own good fortune.

#2: The item is on sale!

#2 It makes my day when……….. You have to go to the shops for a specific item and when you get there, you find that it’s on sale.
Whether it’s as simple as your favourite cereal or shampoo, it always makes me a bit excited and proud of my good timing.
Even bigger items though, such as a new dress and/or matching shoes, completely take the cake and have me retelling my good fortune to all those who will listen.

#1: New Sock Day!

#1 It makes my day when……  It’s new sock day!
The feeling of fresh, crisp socks is one of utter bliss.
If it wasn’t for the cost and wastefulness of it, I would love to indulge in wearing brand new socks every day.
Brand new, expensive sports specific socks is an even rarer and more thrilling experience, so at $30 a pop, I make sure that I truly cherish those few steps.

Note: Princes Charles looks pretty pleased with his new socks too!

It makes my day when.........

It makes my day when…… is my new blog, which I have decided to start in honour of the little pleasures in life that often don’t get the recognition they deserve. Hallmark doesn’t make cards to mark these occasions but that doesn’t mean they don’t feel as exciting as a Birthday or Christmas at the time of their occurrence.
These are the things that bring a smile to your dial, make you squeal with delight, have you pump your fist with joy or simply smirk at your own good fortune.
There are so many of these little moments throughout our life and it’s time we gave them some credit.
So each day I will be posting a blog about one of these moments that make my day when they happen.
The blogs won’t be long but hopefully they may make you stop & think about all the little pleasures in your life that make you smile.
Feel free to share your moments with me anytime.

Enjoy!
